Maharashtra government eases school admission age for children
Pune, December 21, 2021: There are difficulties admitting children born in October, November and December.
Therefore, the minimum age limit for the 2022-23 academic year should be December 31, 2022 so as not to cause any loss of education to students, a notification from the Maharashtra government education department said.
The following instructions have been given regarding the setting of the minimum age for admission to school for the child in the 2022-23 academic session in accordance with the government resolution of 18/09/2020.
For Play Group / Nursery, the child must be born between October 1, 2018 and December 31, 2019 and the age must be 3 years old on December 31, 2022.
For KG juniors, the child must be born between October 1, 2017 and December 31, 2018 and the age must be 4 years old on December 31, 2022.
For KG seniors, the child must be born between October 1, 2016 and December 31, 2017 and the age must be 5 years old on December 31, 2022.
For the first class, the child must be born between October 1, 2015 and December 31, 2016 and be 6 years old by December 31, 2022.
Dinkar Temkar, Director of Education (Primary), in his notification dated December 20, 2021, said: “There is flexibility regarding the age of admission to pre-primary education, for how many pre-primary years | It is up to parents to decide which primary school to go to, at what age to enter and which class to enter. Schools are not expected to refuse preschool admission based on age. The government decree of 18/09/2020 is mainly applicable for admission to class I.
The government has set the minimum age limit in accordance with the above-mentioned decision. Maximum age limit not specified. There is no problem keeping flexibility within the maximum age limit.
