Richmond County School System to Implement Updated CDC and DPH Mask Guidelines
AUGUSTA, Georgia (WJBF) – The start of the school year in Richmond County is less than a week away. As of August 2, all students, staff and visitors to schools in Richmond County will be required to wear a mask.
Experts from the Centers for Disease Control say everyone should wear a mask indoors regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status, and Richmond County principals agree.
“While there have been state-level changes in the way the response is categorized, we have maintained this partnership because the safety of our students and staff is what we have of course prioritized. throughout this pandemic, “said the school system‘s public relations director. , Lynthia Ross.
Thursday’s decision for mandatory masks inside schools also applies to buses.
School board member Walter Eubanks said, âAs long as we can open up and bring these kids back to class with each other and with a teacher, that’s what we’re trying to do. “
Students are allowed to leave the mask outside or during lunch.
âDuring the pandemic, some administrative decisions were made with input or feedback from members of our board of directors. Our administration has always shared the advice we receive from public health officials with board members before announcing these types of decisions, âsaid Ross.
According to Ross, Richmond County School District leaders are closely monitoring delta variant activity within their community.
She added, “We are working with our public health partner and local health care providers to make sure we stay on top of the latest information and make decisions together with them.”
âFor the moment, we are opening up and I hope before God that we remain open. I just can’t imagine another year like the past year and a half, âEubanks said.
Plans are underway to accommodate students and school employees who cannot wear masks for medical reasons.
Under the new policy, masks will be mandatory at open house events for Richmond County schools.
The open houses for Richmond County schools are as follows:
- Colleges and high schools, August 2, 2021, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Primary and K-8 schools, August 3, 2021, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
AUGUSTA, Georgia (WJBF) – The Richmond County school system updated back-to-school plans to require masks in response to updated CDC guidelines released on July 27.
Starting August 2, masks will be required for all Kindergarten to Grade 12 students, staff and visitors at all facilities in the Richmond County school system and on school buses regardless of their immunization status. .
The RCSS will reopen for in-person instruction for all students. Primary school students will start again on Thursday August 5, while nursery, middle and secondary schools will resume on Monday August 9.
The school system will continue to work with the Department of Public Health to implement best practices in COVID-19 response and reporting. Guidelines from the CDC and DPH say that students identified as being in close contact with positive cases of COVID-19 will not have to self-quarantine if both are wearing masks correctly in a school setting.
Students will be allowed to remove their masks during lunch and while they are outside. Accommodations will be made for people unable to wear masks for documented medical reasons.
The Richmond County school system will continue to update COVID-19 mitigation plans throughout the 2021-2022 school year.
